1/25/13 SC&R Foundation Concludes 2012 Scholarship and Grant Program

(January 25, 2013 Centreville, VA) — The SC&R Foundation has announced 6 additional scholarships and grant award winners for the 2012-2013 program year.  Earlier in 2012, the Foundation provided 10 recipients scholarships and grants totaling $25,000. In December 2012, an additional six recipients were selected to receive a total of $6,000 bringing the total for 2012 to 16 winners. (5 grants and 11 scholarships with a total of $31,000 awarded) The awards are given to assist with tuition and expenses for earning college degrees and technical certificates to pursue employment opportunities in the specialized transportation, crane and rigging industries. Winners must be an employee or spouse, child or grandchild of an employee of an SC&RA member company.
December 2012 Scholarship winners are:
Caleb L. Brack was presented with $1,500 to pursue a degree in Engineering at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Caleb is a resident of Lexington, South Carolina. His father is a manager at Heavy Iron, Lexington, South Carolina.Joseph E. Sadden received a $500 award. He is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science Degree at New York University in Integrated Marketing and works in Sales and Marketing at Cranes, Inc. in New York City.

Collin M. Smith of Saint Joseph, Missouri was provided a scholarship for $1,000 to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri in Columbia. His father is a District Sales Manager at WireCo WorldGroup in Kansas City, Missouri.

Joshua A. Thompson, of Manitowac, Wisconsin was awarded $1,500 to continue his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowac and pursue a degree in Business Management and Accounting.  His father is a Vice President at Allstates Rigging, Inc. located in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

December 2012 Grant winners are:

Erika M. Davis was presented with a $750 grant to pursue a certificate in Accounting Technology at Valencia Community College in Orlando Florida. She is currently employed as a Receptionist/Billing Clerk at McTyre Trucking Company in Orlando.

Conner J. Van Dyke received $750 toward his studies in the Diesel Technology program at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, South Dakota. Conner is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diesel Technology. His father is employed at Van Dyke Brothers, Inc., Luverne, Minnesota.

The SC&R Foundation is currently accepting applications for the 2013-14 Grants and Scholarships Program. To be eligible an applicant must be an employee of an SC&RA member company or a spouse, child or grandchild of an employee of an SC&RA member company. Scholarships are available to students pursuing an educational opportunity at a 2 or 4 year college or university degree program. Grants are available to students taking vocational courses, advanced certificate programs or continuing education classes. The program assists people pursuing a career in the specialized transportation, crane and rigging industries.
